Inspired by a local Virginia summit. Afton Mountain - a gateway to adventure, the place where paths cross and lead one on to new destinations. Afton Mountain is split by Rockfish Gap where two renowned roads converge: Milepost 1 of Skyline Drive and the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. A wind gap uncommon in the otherwise fairly uniform Blue Ridge Mountains, the top of Afton is where westerly winds can push through. When combined with the fog that frequents the mountain, this unique geography makes Afton home not just to one of the best vantage points of the surrounding Blue Ridge, but also a place to witness some of the most diverse and awesome natural forces in the range.
