ROUTE DESCRIPTION
If you're looking to maximize gravel without spending the day on the bike, this is your loop. It hits 3 absolute stunning and well known gravel roads in a wonderful loop that minimizes any time on the pavement.
While there is no one eye catching moment, you will be amazed at the general countryside beauty that encompasses this entire ride. Fox Mountain provides the only true climb (be careful of the false top!), but this route has very few flat sections, so pace yourself accordingly. The tough small climbs come with fun ripping gravel descents on these quiet country roads.
On the final gravel section, Clark Road, make note of the Monastery to the right about 3/4 of a mile in. Our Lady of the Angels Monastery is known for making cheese to help support their ministry. After the Monastery enjoy the scenic road along the creek before heading back to the car.
LOCAL TIPS
Local Tip 1: One of the few routes that can truly be ridden in either direction, so switch it up if you'd like!
Local Tip 2: For a slightly longer ride, park at Mudhouse or GreenHouse Coffee (the two great coffee spots in Crozet, VA) and ride Jones Mill Road for some added gravel.
Where to stop during the ride? There are two general stores at the start, but choose carefully, Wyant's Store and the Piedmont Store are absolute rivals!
After the Ride: If you're not dead from the ride, you can drive Sugar Hollow road and hike North or South along two creeks to find some nice swimming holes. You may also just want to sit in the creek right at the parking lot.
